1. Creating a Material In Voucher:
- Gateway of Tally (Alt+F12): Launch TallyPrime and navigate to the Gateway of Tally menu.
- Create Voucher (Alt+F7): Select “Create Voucher.”
- Material In (Optional): You might see “Material In” directly listed under “Create Voucher.” If not, proceed to step 4.
- Other Vouchers (F10): Press
F10
(Other Vouchers) and choose “Material In” from the voucher type list.
2. Entering Details about Material In Voucher (Raw Material) in TallyPrime:
The Material In voucher screen will have various sections to fill in:
- Party: Select the party supplying the raw materials. This could be a supplier’s ledger account or another godown account (for internal transfers).
- Stock Items: Choose the specific raw material items being received.
- Stock Item Allocation (Optional): If using batches, you can specify the batch(es) for the received raw materials for each stock item.

You purchase 200 units of “Steel Sheets” (raw material) from “ABC Metal Suppliers” at a cost of ₹100 per unit.
- Navigate to Gateway of Tally > Create Voucher > Material In (or Other Vouchers > Material In).
- Select “ABC Metal Suppliers” from the “Party” list.
- Choose “Steel Sheets” as the stock item.
- Enter “200” in the quantity field.
- Enter “100” in the rate field.
- Configure the appropriate purchase tax if applicable.
- Press
Ctrl+S
to save the Material In voucher, recording the purchase of raw materials.
Scenario 2: Internal Transfer of Raw Materials
You receive 50 units of “Plastic Granules” (raw material) from your “Raw Materials Godown” into your “Production Unit.”
- Navigate to Gateway of Tally > Create Voucher > Material In (or Other Vouchers > Material In).
- Select the ledger account associated with your “Raw Materials Godown” from the “Party” list.
- Choose “Plastic Granules” as the stock item.
- Enter “50” in the quantity field.
- The rate field might be for informational purposes (consider using the purchase price of the raw materials).
- Specify “Production Unit” as the “Source Godown.”
- Press
Ctrl+S
to save the Material In voucher, recording the internal transfer of raw materials.
5. Additional Considerations:
- You can create multiple debit and credit entries within a Material In voucher for complex scenarios (consult your accountant if needed).
