TallyPrime allows you to record such purchases in a single purchase voucher without any confusion.

This helps you save time, maintain accurate records, and ensure correct tax calculation.


1. When Does This Happen? Items with Different GST Rates in a Single Voucher in TallyPrime

Let’s say you purchase:

  • Printer @ ₹10,000 with 18% GST
  • Stationery @ ₹5,000 with 12% GST

Both are on the same invoice, but have different tax rates.

TallyPrime handles this easily by letting you assign tax rates at the item level.


2. Step-by-Step: Record Purchase with Different GST Rates in a Single Voucher in TallyPrime

Step 1: Enable GST in TallyPrime

  1. Press F11 (Features) > Statutory & Taxation
  2. Enable Goods and Services Tax (GST) – Yes
  3. Set your State and GSTIN
  4. Press Ctrl + A to save

Step 2: Create Stock Items with Tax Rates

  1. Go to Gateway of Tally > Inventory Info > Stock Items > Create

For Printer:

  • Name: Printer
  • Unit: Nos
  • Set GST Applicable: Yes
  • HSN Code: Enter correct HSN
  • GST Rate: 18%
  • Save

For Stationery:

  • Name: Stationery
  • Unit: Nos
  • GST Applicable: Yes
  • HSN Code: Enter correct HSN
  • GST Rate: 12%
  • Save

Step 3: Create Purchase and GST Ledgers

  1. Go to Accounts Info > Ledgers > Create

Purchase Ledger:

  • Name: Purchase @ Multiple Rates
  • Under: Purchase Accounts
  • GST Applicable: Yes
  • Type of Supply: Goods
  • Save

GST Ledgers (if not created already):

  • CGST, SGST, and/or IGST based on the supplier’s state
  • Under: Duties & Taxes
  • Type of Duty/Tax: GST
  • GST Type: Central/State/Integrated
  • Leave rate blank (Tally auto-applies based on items)

Step 4: Record the Purchase Voucher

  1. Go to Gateway of Tally > Vouchers > F9: Purchase
  2. Choose supplier name
  3. Select the Purchase @ Multiple Rates ledger
  4. Enter the items one by one:

Item 1: Printer

  • Quantity: 1
  • Rate: ₹10,000
  • GST Auto-applies @18%

Item 2: Stationery

  • Quantity: 1
  • Rate: ₹5,000
  • GST Auto-applies @12%
  1. Tally will calculate CGST and SGST separately for both items
  2. Verify total tax and purchase amount
  3. Save the voucher
